Dogs and Doors

Do you have certain things you find yourself photographing often? Maybe it's sunsets. Or the moon. For me it's dogs and doors. A weird pairing I admit, but for some reason when I am travelling I just can't get enough of them both - separately of course!

Ringo was enjoying his Sunday morning on E Main St in downtown Bozeman, Montana. A 6-year-old Australian Shepherd, he was rescued by his owners. Originally a working dog on a ranch he was surrendered as he kept eating the farms chickens!
I think it's obvious why I take pics of dogs, I mean, because, well dogs!

I met Marko on Royal Street, outside my hotel when I was in New Orleans. He's was a 10-mth-old Pomeranian and he was as cute as he looks in this pic. His owners had him in a baby stroller.
I don't really have a logical explanation for the door obsession the best way I can describe it is that it's like the entrance to the buildings soul - deep I know!

This beautiful door was spied at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
In all seriousness sometimes it is difficult to capture the essence of a building or area and for me a door helps do that.

Flushing Avenue, Brooklyn. Just opposite the Brooklyn Navy Yard this door caught my eye, it felt out of place among the industrial decor.
The most important thing for me when I take travel pictures is that they will take me back to that place and these pics certainly do that. I can visualise the surroundings, what I was doing when taking the pic and even what I did on that day, including things I ate (that day in Brooklyn I ate an insane Mac n Cheese burger).
At the moment I find myself pouring over my travel photos both with gratitude and sadness. I am of course grateful that I have had so many wonderful travel experiences but I am also sad that so many places I love have suffered so much during this pandemic (New York and Italy in particular).
Who knows what changes will be on the other side of this for travelling, in general. But I do hope that we find out sooner rather than later.
